Upson Regional Medical Center Partners with Thomaston-Upson Schools to Implement Project SEARCH Program

Thomaston, GA, April 4, 2024 – Upson Regional Medical Center is excited to announce a new partnership with Thomaston-Upson Schools to implement a Project SEARCH Program.

Project SEARCH prepares young people with significant disabilities for success in competitive integrated employment. The program is a unique, business-led, one-year employment preparation program that takes place entirely at the workplace. Total workplace immersion facilitates a seamless combination of classroom instruction, career exploration, and hands-on training through worksite rotations. The ultimate goal of the program is to equip interns with the skills needed for employment, either at the host site or at another business in our community.

Candidates for the hybrid program are either high school seniors or young adults who have graduated from high school, but need additional soft skills training for employment readiness.

An informational luncheon was held at Upson Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 so that potential interns, and members of the community, could learn more details about the program. Interested candidates completed applications onsite. Interns who are chosen for the program will be notified of their acceptance at the end of April and will begin their internships in August 2024.

Upson Regional Medical Center will serve as the host site for the interns. These interns will report to a dedicated classroom at the hospital Monday through Friday from 8 to 3 p.m., just as they would a typical school day.

“Everyone at Upson Regional is thrilled about this new program. We know that having these students in our hospital will bring a new light to our hallways,” stated Upson Regional Medical Center Marketing Director Jessica Hudson. “Our leadership team always prioritizes giving back to the community and we have no doubt that the skills that these interns learn while working at Upson Regional will be transferable into any employment opportunity that may become available to them following their time with ProjectSEARCH.”
