Meet the Executive Team

Dan Owens

Chief Executive Officer

About

Mr. Owens serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Upson Regional Medical Center. Prior to becoming the CEO at URMC, Mr. Owens served as the Chief Executive Officer of Emory University Hospital Midtown, Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University Hospital Midtown and Emory University Hospital Smyrna for 9 years. He led overall operations of the 605-bed community-based and academic teaching hospital in Midtown Atlanta and the 88-bed community hospital in Cobb County. Mr. Owens guided the hospital to exceptional achievements in financial performance (increased net revenue by over $1B to $1.7B in net revenue), quality rankings (US News & World Report #4 hospital in Georgia out of 140 hospitals), and partnerships that contributed to overall admissions growth (26.8% growth). He also executed on ambitious capital projects in excess of over $600M (including the state-of-the-art Cancer hospital and clinics).

Prior to becoming CEO at Emory, he held the following positions at Emory over his 30 years of service, Vice President of Operations at Emory University Hospital Midtown, Director of Operations and Senior Administrator of Critical Care, Hospital Medicine and Primary Care, Corporate Controller for Emory Healthcare (system role) and Financial Administrator for the Woodruff Health Sciences Center (system role).

Mr. Owens is an active leader and member in numerous health care and community organizations locally and across the country. He has served in the following capacities:

Mr. Owens is a Georgia native and holds degrees in Economics from Emory University, a Master of Business Administration from Brenau University, Harvard Business School- completed a nine-month intensive executive course in Managing Healthcare Delivery, and is a Fellow of the Robert W. Woodruff Leadership Academy.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, watching sports, playing golf, volunteering and traveling.

Jason Gassett

Chief Financial Officer

About

Jason Gassett serves as Chief Financial Officer of Upson Regional Medical Center, where he oversees the organization's financial operations. With more than 18 years of experience in financial management, including 12 years specifically in healthcare finance leadership, Jason is committed to supporting the hospital's mission of providing excellent care rooted in compassion for all. 
A Thomaston native, Jason earned both a Master of Accountancy (MAcc) and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from The University of Georgia. Prior to returning to his hometown, he held several leadership positions in public accounting and finance, bringing a broad range of financial and operational expertise to his role at Upson Regional Medical Center.
Jason is proud to serve the community he calls home. He and his wife, Anna, reside in Thomaston with their two children. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family, attending local sporting events, and participating in outdoor activities throughout the area.

Penny Nole, RN, MSN

Chief Nursing Officer

About

As Chief Nursing Officer at URMC, Penny Nole brings more than 32 years of nursing experience and a deep commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.
She earned her Master of Science in Nursing through studies at Western Kentucky University and Chamberlain University and is passionate about supporting and empowering healthcare staff at every stage of their careers.
A native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Penny has devoted her professional life to improving healthcare while mentoring the next generation of nurses.
She and her husband, David, have been married for 34 years and have four children, including three daughters and a son. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with family, exercising, and caring for her two beloved dogs.

Suzanne Streetman, RN, MSN

Chief Quality Officer

About

Suzanne has been an employee at Upson Regional Medical Center for almost fifty years. She began her career at URMC in 1979 as a nursing aide and has been a registered nurse (RN) at URMC since 1980. She is dedicated and fiercely loyal to both the hospital and community.

She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing at Gordon Junior College and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Georgia Southwestern College & State University. Suzanne went on to obtain her Master of Science in Nursing from Georgia College & State University.

Her nursing background includes ICU, Med-Surg, Quality Improvement and Risk Management.  She holds a certification in Risk Management, Patient Safety, and Compliance.

She has worked in multiple specialties and held several titles at URMC, including CNO and CQO. Suzanne holds many certifications and is currently directing Risk Management, Compliance, Credentialing, and Med Staff Services, including helping to oversee Patient Safety and Quality. It is with Suzanne’s oversight and guidance that URMC is able to maintain compliance with both Joint Commission and DNV standards.

When Suzanne is not serving at the hospital, she is spending time with her family and dogs, whom she loves dearly.

Erik Bowe

Chief Information Officer

About

Erik Bowe is a dedicated technology and data executive whose career spans over three decades of leadership in both higher education and healthcare.
He obtained his Bachelor of Science in information systems from Kennesaw State University. Erik holds two Master of Science degrees, one in technology management from Southern Polytechnic State University and one in information systems from Kennesaw State University.
Erik committed 31 years of service to Kennesaw State University, ultimately retiring from his distinguished role as Associate Vice President and Chief Data Officer.
Following his retirement from KSU, he brought his expertise to Virginia Commonwealth University before making a strategic transition into the healthcare sector.
Today, he leverages his extensive background in systems and data governance as the Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Technology at Upson Regional Medical Center, where he oversees clinical and infrastructure teams.

Tammy Moore

Physician Practice Administrator

About

Tammy serves as the Physician Practice Administrator for Upson Regional Medical Center, where she oversees physician practice operations and works closely with providers and staff to ensure high-quality patient care and operational excellence.
She began her career in the healthcare field in 1997 at Thomaston OB/GYN, which was later purchased by URMC in 2009. Tammy has been with URMC ever since the acquisition and has enjoyed her time with the healthcare system. 

Throughout her healthcare administration career, Tammy has focused on improving practice efficiency, supporting provider recruitment and retention, and enhancing the patient experience. She is passionate about building strong teams and fostering a collaborative environment that supports both employees and patients.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family.

Chelsea Peterson, RN

Director of Growth and Strategy

About

Chelsea Peterson began her healthcare career as a registered nurse after earning her BSN from LaGrange College and working in the Emergency Department at Upson Regional Medical Center. She later transitioned into hospice leadership and healthcare marketing.

She now serves as the Director of Growth & Strategy at Upson Regional Medical Center, where she combines her passion for healthcare and her hometown to help expand access to exceptional care in her community.

Born and raised in Thomaston, Chelsea is passionate about seeing her hometown flourish and ensuring families can receive top-notch healthcare close to home.

Outside of work, she enjoys thrifting, decorating, spending time outdoors, and making memories with her husband and two sons. Whether exploring her creative interests, enjoying the outdoors with her boys, or serving her community, Chelsea is passionate about helping others and making a meaningful difference in the place she calls home.

Laura Stokes

Director of Human Resources

About

Laura is a native of Columbus, Georgia, where she obtained her undergraduate degree in political science from Columbus State University. Shortly thereafter, she obtained her master’s degree in human resource management from Troy State University.

She has worked in healthcare human resources for 25 plus years, with 11 of those years being with URMC. Her passion is helping URMC's employees inject love into the lives of the people they serve.

Her favorite quote from Theo of Gold by Allen Levi (also from Columbus, Georgia) guides her mission and purpose as the Director of Human Resources: “For anything to be good, truly good, there must be love in it. Whether the art is sculpture, farming, teaching, lawmaking, medicine, music, or raising a child—nothing is what it’s supposed to be if love is not at the core.”

Away from work, she enjoys writing, reading, and traveling.
