A sweet bundle of joy was added to our Upson family! Jude Trimble, son of Tia and Kevin Trimble, RN, was born on July 3, 2026 at URMC. Kevin works in our ICU.
Tia was admitted on July 1, 2026. After 28 ½ hours of labor, it became clear that a C-section might be necessary.
Tia says, “I got dilated all the way to 10 [centimeters], but he had flipped sunny-side up, and he was getting lodged. The way he was trying to come out wasn’t working.”
“Sunny-side up,” also known as the occiput posterior position (OP), or posterior position, means that the baby’s head is down but facing mom’s abdomen, which can lead to complications during delivery.
Tia made the brave decision to have an elective C-section. However, Tia’s left-side was unresponsive to the epidural, making it necessary to administer general anesthesia to keep her safe during surgery.
Because she would need to be intubated, her husband couldn’t be present in the OR with her.
That’s when OR nurse Kennedy Bennett, whom Tia calls her “angel,” stepped in to keep her calm and relaxed.
Tia shares: “She was standing over me, rubbing my face, telling me, ‘You got this, Tia. I know this isn’t what you imagined, but you got this—you’re so strong. Your baby is going to be so healthy.’ She was a lifesaver. She felt so warm. During a time where I felt like I wasn’t going to make it or see my baby, she gave me comfort somehow. She’s in the right calling.”
Following her successful C-section, Tia says she was surrounded by an amazing team of people who helped her and Jude every step of the way, from teaching her how to breastfeed to answering questions about her recovery and taking care of a newborn to delivering nutritious food.
“Even though everything was going on,” Tia says, “and I was terrified, I was like, ‘I’m going to be okay because I have this nurse. I’m going to be okay because I have this doctor. I’m going to be okay because I have this lunch lady bringing me food.’ That’s what I kept telling myself. Nothing was going to happen because all of these people are so intelligent, and they know what they’re doing.”
