MRI with IV Contrast

Thank you for choosing Upson Regional Medical Center for your healthcare needs! In order to provide a smooth visit for your MRI, we have provided some important details below. Please read the below information carefully, and contact us at 706-647-8111 with any concerns or questions.

  • Please arrive 15-30 minutes early to complete your registration prior to coming to the Radiology department. Registration is located in the main entrance of the hospital, off Cherokee Road.

  • MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging, a non-invasive medical imaging technique that uses radio waves and strong magnets to generate detailed images of the inside of the body.

  • IV contrast: Your doctor has requested your study be performed using IV contrast; some patients are REQUIRED to have recent (within 30 days) bloodwork to evaluate kidney function. If you meet any of the following criteria, recent bloodwork is needed:
    • If you are age 60 or older
    • If you have high blood pressure or take medication for high blood pressure
    • If you are diabetic or take medication for diabetes
    • If you have kidney disease

  • Please be aware if you arrive without the needed labs, your scan will be delayed while our staff collects the needed labs to ensure you can safely have contrast. If you are uncertain if you need bloodwork or have questions, please contact your ordering provider.

  • You will be asked to remove all items that contain metal prior to your scan; this includes jewelry, hair pins, and any clothing that contains metal (a gown will be provided). Please refrain from wearing magnetic eyelashes and metallic makeup. To expedite your visit, we recommend wearing warm, comfortable, metal-free clothing such as leggings, sweat pants, t-shirt, and sports bra if wearing a bra.
