How HR Cares For You

Many employees who have experienced a reduction in hours or a furlough have voiced their concerns about pay and their financial situations. We hear you and we have made some changes that will hopefully assist in easing some of the financial burdens you may be experiencing.

Effective May 1, 2020, employees may request a second loan with Valic. Previously, URMC did not allow employees to have more than one loan on their retirement account at a time. Employees may also now complete the entire loan process online via their online Valic account. If you’ve not set one up, go to www.valic.com to set it up. Or, if you need additional assistance, John Lamberth and Abby Giles are ready and willing to help employees with the loan process. John can be reached at 478-319-7290 or john.lamberth@hcbe.net. Abby can be reached at 478-319-7832or abby.giles@hcbe.net.

Effective immediately, URMC has established a Leave Donation Bank. Employees who have experienced a medical emergency or a major disaster, such as COVID, are eligible to request leave from the bank. Since the bank is new, we are seeking donors. The donation of PTO is strictly voluntary and donated PTO goes into the bank for eligible employees to use. The identity of the donors and recipients remains anonymous, and all requests for use of donated leave must be approved. To learn more, visit Policy Tech and review HR Policy HR.509 Leave Donation Bank. The forms for donation and to request use of donated PTO will be available for use soon.

We care about you and want you to have access to all of the tools you need. The Employee Portal is being updated frequently to include the information you need at your fingertips.

Partial Unemployment Claims Update

Employees whose hours are mandatorily reduced based on business need and who have no other available work opportunities within the organization are eligible for partial unemployment claims to be submitted on their behalf. Employees who refuse work assignments are not eligible, based on the Georgia Department of Labor’s criteria, for partial unemployment. This reduction must result in a loss of pay to the affected employee and the gross wages for the week cannot exceed $1,000.

Claims are submitted to the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) on a biweekly basis. It is imperative that the Reduction in Hours (RIH) code is on an affected employee’s time card in Kronos. This is how HR will pull the reports at the end of the pay period to determine who needs submitting to the GDOL.

If you feel like you’re eligible for partial unemployment but have not received payment, please contact Tammy Elliott in Human Resources at extension 1564 or tammy.elliott@urmc.org.

Hospital Week Celebrations Postponed

The week of May 10th – 16th is designated as Hospital Week for 2020 but URMC will be postponing our major activities until more of our work family are back to work. We know this is an important celebration for everyone and we want you to enjoy the week dedicated to YOU! Don’t worry, we’ll make sure DJ has a PERFECT costume for the week and we will be doing the Top Banana nominations again!
