- A CAT scan, or computed tomography scan, is a medical imaging procedure that uses X-ray technology to create detailed pictures of the inside of the body. The images are taken from various angles and used to create 3D views of the body's organs and tissues.
- IV contrast: Your doctor has requested your study be performed using IV contrast; some patients are REQUIRED to have recent (within 30 days) bloodwork to evaluate kidney function. If you meet any of the following criteria, recent bloodwork is needed:
- If you are age 60 or older
- If you have high blood pressure or take medication for high blood pressure
- If you are diabetic or take medication for diabetes
- If you have kidney disease
- Please be aware if you arrive without the needed labs, your scan will be delayed while our staff collects the needed labs to ensure you can safely have contrast. If you are uncertain if you need bloodwork or have questions, please contact your ordering provider.
- If you have an iodine allergy, you will need to be pre-medicated to avoid a reaction; please inform your ordering provider at least 24 hours prior to your appointment regarding your allergy.
- Please arrive 15-30 minutes early to complete your registration prior to coming to the Radiology department. Registration is located in the main entrance of the hospital, off Cherokee Road.
