Treatment and Support Services
Interventional Cath Lab
Upson offers an interventional cath lab, giving Upson Regional Medical Center the ability to perform procedures (such as stenting and angioplasty) to treat more complex conditions, including emergency treatment of heart attacks. Cardiologists Dr. Frank Macedo and Dr. Joshua Donis lead an experienced team of nurses and technologists to provide outstanding diagnostic care and treatment close to home. Services in the cath lab include cardiac caths, pacemaker/cardiac monitor insertion, arteriograms, stenting, angioplasty, and peripheral vascular interventions.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
Upson offers two levels of physician- prescribed Cardiac Rehab to help strengthen patients following a cardiac event. The tailored and monitored exercise programs are designed for patients who have recently had heart problems such as a heart attack, stable chest pain, stents, by-pass or valve surgery.
To provide peace of mind and proper levels of exercise, all cardiac rehab patients are monitored (blood pressure measurement and telemetry) by a Clinical Exercise Physiologist or Registered Nurse during the exercise session.
Patients receive individualized exercise prescription upon entry into the program and remain in the program until they are deemed stable enough to exercise without telemetry monitoring. Physician referral is required.
Congestive Heart Failure Clinic
Upson offers the CHF Clinic to help patients with any stage of congestive heart failure improve self care and to help prevent hospital readmissions. The CHF Clinic is held Tuesdays in the Wellness Center.
Pacemaker Follow-Up
The Pacemaker follow-up program provides ongoing monitoring of pacemakers over the telephone and in the Cardiology Department.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation
PR, Pulmonary rehabilitation, also called pulmonary rehab, helps improve the well-being of people who have ongoing breathing problems. For example, PR may benefit people who have COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
PR doesn't replace medical therapy. Instead, it's used with medical therapy and includes:
- Exercise training
- Nutritional counseling
- Education on your condition and how to manage it
- Energy-conserving techniques
- Breathing strategies
