Treatment and Support Services
Interventional Cath Lab
Upson offers an interventional cath lab, giving Upson Regional Medical Center the ability to perform procedures (such as stenting and angioplasty) to treat more complex conditions, including emergency treatment of heart attacks. Cardiologists Dr. Ryan Macwar, Dr. Almois Mohamad, and Dr. Joshua Donis along with general surgeon Dr. Robert Solyomvari lead an experienced team of nurses and technologists to provide outstanding diagnostic care and treatment close to home. Services in the cath lab include cardiac caths, pacemaker/cardiac monitor insertion, arteriograms, stenting, angioplasty, and peripheral vascular interventions.
Upson offers two levels of physician- prescribed Cardiac Rehab to help strengthen patients following a cardiac event. The tailored and monitored exercise programs are designed for patients who have recently had heart problems such as a heart attack, stable chest pain, stents, by-pass or valve surgery.
To provide peace of mind and proper levels of exercise, all cardiac rehab patients are monitored (blood pressure measurement and telemetry) by a Clinical Exercise Physiologist or Registered Nurse during the exercise session.
Patients receive individualized exercise prescription upon entry into the program and remain in the program until they are deemed stable enough to exercise without telemetry monitoring. Physician referral is required.
Congestive Heart Failure Clinic
Upson offers the CHF Clinic to help patients with any stage of congestive heart failure improve self care and to help prevent hospital readmissions. The CHF Clinic is held Tuesdays in the Wellness Center.
The Pacemaker follow-up program provides ongoing monitoring of pacemakers over the telephone and in the Cardiology Department.
PR, Pulmonary rehabilitation, also called pulmonary rehab, helps improve the well-being of people who have ongoing breathing problems. For example, PR may benefit people who have COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
PR doesn't replace medical therapy. Instead, it's used with medical therapy and includes:
- Exercise training
- Nutritional counseling
- Education on your condition and how to manage it
- Energy-conserving techniques
- Breathing strategies
An EKG is an electrical tracing of the hearts activity and is helpful in helping diagnose cardiac abnormalities such as heart attack or rhythm disorders.
Echo Cardiology Services (Inpatient & Outpatient)
Echocardiography provides sonogram images of the heart to determine structural abnormalities. Upson has the most up to date diagnostic technology including 3-D imaging.
Coronary CT Angiography (C-CTA)
This exam assists in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. The exam is performed with only the use of one IV site and takes only approximately 8 seconds.
128 Slice CT
Upson Regional Medical Center recently installed a new Philips 128 Slice CT Scanner. The Philips 128 Slice CT scanner provides patients many benefits such as a lower radiation dose, higher quality images, and 70-80% lower noise.
Impedance Cardiography or ICG measures blood flow and fluid volumes through the major arteries and the lungs. This technology is helpful in diagnosing congestive heart failure and in managing high blood pressure.
Stress testing can assist doctors in diagnosing heart disease. Upson offers different types of stress testing depending on the patients need. Treadmill stress testing and chemical stress exams with nuclear perfusion studies using the latest technology to speed the study and increase patient safety for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease.
