TeamHealth, one of the nation’s largest healthcare professional staffing services for hospitals, honored Bert Wall, M.D. with its 2011 Medical Director of the Year award for Hospital Medicine.
Selected by TeamHealth’s Medical Advisory Board, Dr. Wall was chosen for excellence in physician leadership from among 63 hospital medicine medical directors in 19 states.
“He truly raises the bar for leadership among our colleagues, and we are proud to recognize him for his hard work and dedication,” said Lynn Massingale, MD, FACEP, Executive Chairman of TeamHealth.
Dr. Wall closed his private practice in Barnesville in 2009 and joined TeamHealth to lead Hospital Medicine at Upson.
Hospitalists play an important role at Upson, and work in conjunction with patients’ primary care physicians to ensure good continuity of care. From admission through discharge, they focus exclusively on inpatient care and may order tests, monitor a patient’s recovery from surgery, prescribe medicine and implement treatment options to ensure a patient’s best outcome. .
Upson CEO David Castleberry says Dr. Wall is a collaborator among physicians and clinicians to make sure patients receive the best of care. “Dr. Wall has been on medical staff at Upson for more than a decade, and he has longstanding professional relationships with his peers. You simply cannot put a value on the level of respect and trust that Dr. Wall brings our medical community and patients.”
Dr. Wall attributes the award to Upson’s culture of teamwork. “Upson is a great hospital with a great medical staff and great employees, who put patients first,” he said. “When patients are the center of everything we do, everyone benefits, including me, because this recognition is the result of great teamwork."
Dr. Wall is board certified in Family Medicine and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.. He is a graduate of Emory University and received his M.D. from Mercer University in 1998. He resides in Barnesville with his wife, Kim, and their children.
He said, “I have a favorite quote from Robert E. Lee ‘Do your duty in all things. You cannot do more you should never wish to do less,’ and I believe approaching patient care in this manner helps the Hospitalist program and our hospital to achieve great things.”
