Thomaston’s own Jess Rogers is joining Upson Surgical Associates as a Physician Assistant.
As a young boy with dreams of practicing medicine, he took a job as a teen at Upson Regional Medical Center just a few short months after obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Jess worked in Materials Management as a distribution clerk, where he spent many of his days ensuring that each department had what they needed to provide efficient and quality care.
In 2011, he earned his Bachelors of Science in Biology from the University of Georgia. During his time at UGA, he worked in the Biochemistry Department researching both biofuel production and drugs aimed at treating Rheumatoid Arthritis and Crohn’s Disease. Outside of school, he was employed by North Georgia Canopy Tours where he spent five years as an outdoor Eco-guide.
While waiting to apply for PA school, Jess worked part-time at St. Mary’s Health Care System in Athens as a patient transporter in order to gain more hands-on patient care experience. He also volunteered at several organizations throughout his time in Athens including Athens Regional Medical Center, St. Mary’s Hospice House, and Mercy Health Clinic.
In March of 2017, Jess graduated from South University Physician Assistant Program in Savannah, GA with a Master of Science as a Physician Assistant. His loyalty to his community and passion for medicine led him back to Thomaston where he seeks to begin his career at URMC. He is excited to join Dr. Robert Solyomvari and Dr. Darryl Knight as a surgical PA in their practice.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to become a part of URMC, an organization that uses the latest advances of medicine to provide quality and cost efficient healthcare. There is nothing more rewarding than serving the community that helped shape me into who I am today,” said Rogers.
