Upson Regional Medical Center welcomes a new general surgeon to the area this week. Darryl Knight, M.D., joins Dr. Robert Solyomvari at Upson Surgical Associates August 12.
Dr. Knight is originally from East Point, Ga., and earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Fort Valley State University before acceptance to the Morehouse School of Medicine.
At Morehouse, he explored different facets of medicine, and was absolutely hooked on general surgery from his very first rotation. “I’ve always liked working with my hands and mending things,”
Dr. Knight said. “From working on cars to cooking, being hands-on and solving problems is my forte, and general surgery really suits me.”
Dr. Knight has completed five years of residency, with rotations at Columbus Regional Medical Center, Scottish Rite, Grady, and Atlanta Medical Center South.
Dr. Knight said his move to Upson was due in large part to his desire to make a difference in the health of a community and to raise his family in a less urbanized area.
“There are so many hospitals and surgeons in an urban area, and I want to be somewhere that I know I’m needed,” he said. “I know I will be busy here, but that’s the way I want it to be.”
Dr. Knight performs many types of surgical procedures including endoscopy, gall bladder removal, mastectomies, skin cancer removal, appendectomy, complex hernia fixation, thyroid surgery and colon surgery.
He, along with Dr. Solyomvari, also have specialty in endovascular and minimally-invasive surgical techniques that often can help patients recover faster and with less pain than traditional surgery.
Dr. Knight is married to his wife of almost 10 years, Amy, and together they have four beautiful children:
Makaya (8), Malaki (7), Josiah (5) and Joriya (2).
Drs. Knight and Solyomvari will have offices in Suite B of the Tyler Building on 612 W. Gordon St. in Thomaston and Suite 206 of the Barnesville Medical Office Building at 100 Hwy. 18 West in Barnesville. Call (706) 648-3368 for an appointment.
“I look forward to the opportunity to work with Dr. Solyomvari to provide the best of surgical care to the people of Upson and surrounding counties,” Dr. Knight said. “More importantly, my family and I are looking forward to becoming a part of such a wonderful and caring community.”
