The Health Foundation of Upson Regional Medical Center has made its first major gift since its inception in 2006- $100,000 to the hospital for the purchase of two surgical lasers.
One is a urologic laser, especially designed to break up stones. The “YAG” laser can eliminate bladder and kidney stones regardless of composition plus perform soft tissue treatments — ablation, incision and coagulation.
The second laser is the AcuPulse CO2 Laser, a multi-specialty system, which is used in many general procedures across all specialties, including gynecology, urology, and ear, nose and throat.
Foundation Director Hoppy Hopkins says the investment in lasers mirrors the Foundation’s focus on advancing patient care and technologies. “The efficiency and effectiveness of laser surgery certainly will benefit our patients," he said.
The lasers can be programmed by procedure and by physician. “The lasers will adapt as we add new doctors, such as general surgeon Dr. Darryl Knight, who will join us in August," Hopkins added. "And, it will adapt as we add new procedures.”
Upson continually enhances its programs, services and technologies to ensure that the health care needs of area residents are met…now and in the future. Hopkins said, patient revenues alone cannot fund the growth necessary to serve our community in the decades ahead. The Foundation exists to help.
The Health Foundation of Upson Regional Medical Center officially began in 2006 with a $2.16 million gift from Community Enterprises, Inc. Since the opening contribution, the Health Foundation has received generous donations and gifts from businesses and citizens of our community.
The Health Foundation accepts donations of any amount in a variety of forms, including securities, real estate, inheritances and other gifts-in-kind. Donors may also designate gifts for specific departments, services or equipment and all donations are tax-deductible.
