Inpatient Medical Services Unit

Welcome to the Inpatient Medical Services unit. This unit has 28 rooms which are all private rooms. Handicapped rooms are available.

We provide care for all types of patients, including those who require isolation, according to physician orders and infection control guidelines.

We have also developed and use some disease pathways for some illnesses, such as pneumonia and strokes. This is a specific treatment plan that includes medications and treatments, that isdetermined by your physician, and are initiated upon your arrival to the unit and are designed to speed your progress toward getting well.

We are always concerned for your safety. As part of your admission nursing assessment, we do a fall risk assessment to determine how we will need to insure your safety during your stay. Should needs be identified, we will initiate our “Falling Star” program, which will identify to the staff that you will need assistance and monitoring. You may also wear a special green bracelet to identify that you may be at risk for fall. This system is used throughout the hospital.

In addition, we utilize other safety equipment such as the “Rocking Geriatric Chair” and the Patient List to prevent falls and provide safe transfers for you and the nursing staff. We also utilized bed alarms that will alert us if you are trying to get up unassisted.

The unit is staffed with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and other support staff who all work together to provide individualized patient care.

Rounding is done hourly during the day shift and every two hurs on the night shift to assure attention is given to your needs and to address any needs your family may have. Your comfort and control of pain and /or other symptoms are important to us.

The Spectralink Phone system is used by the nursing staff so that you may reach your assigned nurse at any time.

Others services available to you include a case manager and/or a social service staff person to help plan and coordinate any discharge needs you may have. They will also help in arranging other levels of care, after hospitalization, if needed.

Your discharge nurse will discuss your discharge instructions and provide you with a written copy of the instructions. This information will include diet, medications, activity, and physician follow-up appointments.

We want to assure that you are doing well, so a nurse will call you at home a day or two after you are discharged from the hospital. We encourage you to share with this nurse your experience on our unit, so that we may compliment staff and improve on our service to you.

Our goal is to provide excellent care to all our patients.
