Cardiology Services
The Upson Regional Medical Center's Cardiology Services Department is a group of services related to the diagnosis and care of cardiovascular disease. Though the primary patient population is adults the staff is trained to perform EKG's, Holter monitoring and Echocardiography on the pediatric population. URMC prides its self on a highly trained technical staff with most staff members averaging 10 or more years of Cardiology experience.
Phase II cardiac rehabilitation
The Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is a rehabilitative service provided to patients following a cardiac event. In this setting patients are monitored (blood pressure measurement and telemetry) by a Clinical Exercise Physiologist or Registered Nurse during the exercise session. The professional is assisted by a Cardiology Services Technician. Patients receive individualized exercise prescription upon entry into the program. Patients remain in the program until they are deemed stable enough to exercise without telemetry monitoring. Patient populations served by this program include: post-MI, CABG, Coronary Stent placement, PTCA, Coronary Atherectomy, Pacemaker implant, Stable Angina and Cardiac Transplant.
Phase III cardiac rehabilitation
The Phase III Cardiac Rehabilitation is a maintenance program for patients following discharge from the Phase II program or for individuals at risk for Coronary Artery Disease. In this setting, patient exercise is monitored (blood pressure measurement and heart rate monitoring). The sessions are supervised by an Exercise Physiologist, a Cardiologist Technician or Registered Nurse.
Inpatient/Outpatient EKGs
An EKG is an electrical tracing of the hearts activity and is helpful in helping diagnose cardiac abnormalities such as heart attack or rhythm disorders.
- 12 Lead EKG
- 24hr. Holter Monitor
- 30 day Event Monitor
Pacemaker follow-up
The Pacemaker follow-up program provides ongoing monitoring of pacemakers over the telephone and in the Cardiology Department.
- telephonic checks
- pacemaker interrogations
Inpatient Education
Patients are educated about how to better care for themselves at home to prevent future trips to the hospital.
Echo Cardiology Services (Inpatient & Outpatient)
Echocardiography provides sonogram images of the heart to determine structural abnormalities. URMC has the most up to date technology including 3-D imaging.
EECP
Enhanced External Counter Pulsation is an exciting treatment for patients who suffer with chronic chest pain related to heart disease. EECP is safe and non invasive. Patients can often return to desired activities following a course of treatment
Impedance Cardiography - Bioz
Impedance Cardiography or ICG measures blood flow and fluid volumes through the major arteries and the lungs. This technology is helpful in diagnosing congestive heart failure and in managing high blood pressure.
Stress Tests
Stress testing can assist doctors in diagnosing heart disease. URMC offers different types of stress testing depending on the patinets need.
- Standard Exercise Stress Test
- Cardiolyte Nuclear Stress Test
- Pharmacological Stress Test
Stress tests may be scheduled by calling 706-647-8111 x1114
